Written by an independent lesfic author, A Dangling Fish is geared towards a lesbian audience. The reason for this is simple: Neve is a lesbian and she believes in writing what you know best ; )
Of course, anyone is welcome to read it. The challenges the main character, Gabbi, faces are not entirely unique to the gay community, they’re just penned from a gay perspective. So, for example, if you’re expecting Gabbi and James to fall in love and get married, it aint gonna happen!
However, every effort has been made to list A Dangling Fish in the appropriate online bookstore sections, such as lesbian fiction or lesbian drama or lesbian romance, to ensure it’s not bought in error and there’s no surprises. Though, who knows, it might turn out to be the read of the month for some unsuspecting straight headmistress looking for a cosy romance with a Mr Darcy-type. Otherwise, it’s suitable for anyone of consenting age.
Here’s the blurb for A Dangling Fish
Gabbi Sinclair is trying to pick up the pieces after a failed relationship and, though she doesn’t realise it at first, the hang-ups it’s left her with about women. She decides the best thing to do is pick up that life, and attempt to claw back the lost years of her youth, where it was a decade ago. Where better to do it than a Greek island. Easy enough, right?
Laugh, cringe and cry with (or at) Gabbi on her adventures and the (often awkward) situations she finds herself in. She questions everything, including her sanity, in her quest to find normality in this life. Gabbi has two best friends, one is James, the other is her diary:
“I hate myself. I’m an idiot. I’m hiding. What is wrong with me? You’d think I would learn. I’m acting like a teenager. In fact, no, even as a teenager I wasn’t so bloody stupid!
“I really really really should not drink. Ugh. It’s what, gone 1pm, and I’ve only just managed to escape. From where exactly? I’m not sure, some house somewhere several streets away in a maze…
“One minute I’m riding through town squeezed between two women on a motorbike, and the next I’m being served breakfast in bed, complete with flowers fresh from the garden on the tray, and kisses on the forehead like we were lovers on a Valentine getaway. All I can hear are echoes of ‘Ne ne ne ne ne’ like a Greek Herbal Essence advert. Shoot me.”
